The guest exhibition at Ketterer Kunst Berlin units a bunch of first-class works from the Marli Hoppe-Ritter Collection.
On display are 48 paintings, reliefs and sculptures by 47 renowned artists, selected according to historical and aesthetic criteria. They span over one hundred years of geometric-abstract art in concentrated form. The earliest work in the show, a suprematist sketch by Kazimir Malevich, is also the oldest work in the Marli Hoppe-Ritter Collection. The small, delicate drawing from 1915 is shown in one room together with other gems of the artistic avant-garde, including pictures by representatives of the Bauhaus and the De Stijl group.
The exhibition also includes highlights of concrete art, op art and kinetics through to exciting new positions on the theme of the square. Contemporary art is represented by works by Vera Molnar, Gerhard Richter and Esther Stocker, among others. In addition to these pieces and the early constructivist art, the large-format paintings by Josef Albers and Piero Dorazio as well as an impressive circular painting by artist Leon Polk Smith are particular highlights of the exhibition.
