Vita Alighiero Boetti:
1940 born in Turin
1962-64 lives in Paris
Around 1965 does his first pen and ink drawings as an autodidact
1967 produces the piece Manifesto, a poster listing the names of artists that make up Boetti’s creative background
1967 first solo exhibition in Galleria Christian Stein, Turin
1968 creates the photomontage Gemelli (Twins), a double-portrait of Boetti that is published as a postcard
1969 first works with postage stamps (francobolli)
1970 first ballpoint pen drawings (lavoro biri)
1971-79 numerous trips to Afghanistan; together with friends he opens the ONE HOTEL in Kabul; his first embroidered pictures are done by Afghani craftswomen
1971 first monumental version of an embroidered map of the world (Mappa)
1971-78 together with Annemarie Sauzeau, Boetti works on the large embroidered I mille fiumi piu lunghi del mondo; parallel of this he creates a 1000-page book of the same name
