The factors of time and space play an important part in the works of Stefanie Lampert. On stepping inside the room installations by this Karlsruhe artist, the viewer finds him- or herself in the middle of a walk-through picture. Lampert has chosen to transform the long corridor-like spaces in MUSEUM RITTER with their enormous window openings: two long, narrow areas with large transparent surfaces that look out onto the countryside. Her choice is not, however, surprising because daylight is one of the essential components of her work. The artist has placed coloured foils over the windowpanes and by filtering the light produced a geometrical play of colours on the wall opposite. In addition, square Perspex panels have been mounted on the walls, which act as glistening projection surfaces. The colours and forms that arise in this way are influenced by the changes in the daylight and the angle of the sun’s rays. In this way the installation is kept in permanent motion and never reaches an ultimate, unchanging state. As in all of the artist’s works, the installation »Montevideo« was conceived through the medium of painting, even though it was not realized with brush and canvas. Stefanie Lampert takes the fundamentals of painting—light, colour, and space—and employs them as factual, physical elements directly in three-dimensional space.
