Everyone who has followed the development of the three Stuttgart artists Michelin Kober, Daniel Mijic and Daniel Sigloch in the last few years will recognise their methods – which include: conceptual underpinnings, a fitting portion of humour and self irony, interest in unusual encounters, as well as an anarchic joy in experimentation and the absurd. Actions like “Perlen vor die Säue” [= Pearls before Swine], in which three pigs were given a sumptuous meal in a gallery space done up like a swanky dining room, or “Made in Germany”, in which a number of maggots ate their way through a lump of streaky bacon in which the word “Germany” had been incised, have gained the young Stuttgart artists collective a lot of public attention. Their artistic ideas often produce bewilderment in their audiences, as may their concept for this exhibition.
The critical appraisal of the Marli Hoppe-Ritter Collection becomes an active, open process which is set in motion by the artists, and in which the collector, the collection and staff at the Ritter-Sport company are all involved. Marli Hoppe-Ritter has been requested by the artists to open up parts of her treasure trove and allow the staff at Ritter-Sport to profit. Sixteen (museum) pieces – by renowned artists such as Erich Hauser, Hans-Peter Adamski, Werner Pokorny and Rolf-Gunter Dienst – will wander for six months into sixteen private homes. While the originals are on the staff members’ walls, the newly created exhibition contexts are presented in the museum in the form of photographs showcasing the new proud owners.
